VIDEO: Laborers' Union Gathers in Carroll County For Shale Jobs Rally - UPDATE: STI Responds to Unions

STI Services Group has emailed a statement to us in response to the criticism of their hiring practices. It can be seen after the jump.

The Laborers' International Union of North America rallied in Carroll County today to protest the hiring of out-of-state workers for local construction work related to shale development.  Union representatives stated their feeling that qualified local workers are being passed over for jobs in favor of less qualified workers and companies from other areas, estimating that 75-80% of the construction work related to shale development is going to out-of-state companies and workers or to area companies with substandard employee compensation and benefit plans.

After the jump you can view video of the protest (including a giant inflatable rat), as well as LIUNA's press release related to the rally.  The rally was held across State Route 43 from the White well, the location of an STI Services Group jobsite.  STI, based in Texas, was awarded the local work by Chesapeake Energy.  We reached out to STI for a comment, but as of this post have not received an official response.

The Second Largest Oil and Gas Merger - Cabot and Cimarex

       Due to investor pressure, the U.S shale drillers are being pushed to improve financial and operational performance after a few years of poor returns. Even though the industry has improved its numbers, when compared to last year, investors still want more to be done for them to earn more money.      That's why two mid-tier shale drillers, Cabot and Climarex, have decided to merge in order to eliminate $100 million in annual costs, which means more money for the investors.
