22 New Utica Shale Permits; Harrison County Leads the Way

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has released its latest weekly permitting activity report, and it was a busy week.

There were 22 new permits issued for drilling in the Utica shale last week.  8 of those permits went to Chesapeake Energy for drilling in Harrison County, while 5 more were issued for both Carroll and Noble Counties.  There were also 2 permits issued for Mahoning County, 1 for Jefferson, and 1 for Trumbull.

That brings the cumulative permit total to 660.  326 wells have been drilled, and 97 are producing.  The Utica rig count is reported at 31.

Carroll County now has 257 total permits issued.  Harrison is up to 91.
