Cumberland Begins to Anticipate Pipeline Activity

A new natural gas pipeline might be snaking its way through Cumberland on its way from Pennsylvania to Texas. 
Energy companies Williams Cos. Inc. and Boardwalk Pipeline Partners LP announced in March they plan to collaborate on the Bluegrass Pipeline, which would transport natural gas liquids from the Marcellus and Utica shale plays to exporting facilities on the Gulf Coast. 
Details of the pipeline have not been announced — including the cost and what path it will take — but Cumberland Mayor Viola Abrams received a letter from Williams Cos. in March announcing the pipeline. 
Cumberland might be on the pipeline’s path, according to the letter, and Bluegrass officials might be contacting Cumberland residents in the near future about civil and environmental surveys for the line.
