Busy Week Brings 25 New Utica Shale Permits; Carroll County Leads Way

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources was active last week, as 25 new permits were issued for horizontal drilling in Ohio's Utica shale.

Once again it was Carroll County leading the way, with 11 of the new permits issued for Carroll wells.  6 of those were for Chesapeake wells, while the remaining 5 were for Rex Energy's Jenkins well in Washington Township.

5 permits were issued to Gulfport Energy in Belmont County, while the company also is listed as operator on 3 permits for Harrison County.  3 permits were also issued for Noble County, 2 for Guernsey County, and 1 for Trumbull County.

With this activity the cumulative permit count has now reached 731, with 358 wells drilled and 102 producing.  The Utica rig count is 29.
