The latest roundup from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources shows that Ohio has hit another milestone as Utica shale drilling activity continues to heat up.

15 new permits were issued last week.  Harrison County continues to pick up steam as the hottest spot of late, as it was the location for 9 of the 15 permits issued.  There were 4 new permits for Carroll County wells, and 1 each for Monroe and Trumbull counties.

Last week's activity pushes the number of total horizontal drilling permits issued for Ohio's Utica shale closer to 1,000.  The latest tally is 963.  The report also shows that exactly 600 wells have now been drilled, while 174 are now producing.  The Utica rig count remains at 34.
