Latest Report Shows Utica Shale Near to 300 Producing Wells

The latest permitting update from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources shows that activity is slowly beginning to pick back up as the year gets going.

6 new permits were issued last week for horizontal drilling in the Utica shale.  4 of those permits were issued to Chesapeake for Carroll County wells, and the other 2 went to Antero for Monroe County sites.

The cumulative total of permits now is up to 1048.  The number of wells drilled has climbed to 692, and the number of wells producing climbed up once again, to 291.  The Utica rig count is back up to 41.
