12 New Permits Push Utica Shale to Brink of 1,800 in Ohio

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has released the latest weekly permitting update for the state's Utica shale horizontal wells, and it was another relatively slow week for new permits.

In total there were 12 new permits issued last week.  Antero Resources is listed with 7 new permits in Monroe County, while an 8th Monroe County permit was issued to XTO Energy.  Three other permits were for Belmont County wells, and the 12th and final permit goes to Hilcorp Energy for their Fairfield-Nolker 8H well in Columbiana County.

The 12 new permits issued bring the cumulative total of horizontal drilling permits in Ohio's Utica shale to 1,799.  1,348 wells have been drilled and 740 are now producing.  The Utica rig count continues its slide, dropping from 40 to 38.
