Utica Shale Activity Picks Up With 20 New Permits Last Week; Rig Count Drops Again
The latest weekly permitting update from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources shows increased activity from what's been typical of late.
20 new horizontal drilling permits were issued last week. Belmont County was the permit leader for the week, with six. Harrison County was just behind with five, while Monroe and Noble counties each saw four new permits issued. The one remaining permit went to Chesapeake for a well in Columbiana County.
This brings the cumulative totals to 1,852 wells permitted, 1,386 wells drilled, and 821 wells producing. The Utica rig count fell yet again and is now all the way down to 33.
