Monroe County Takes Center Stage in Latest Permitting Report; Rig Count Falls

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has released the Utica shale weekly permitting report for the week ending May 9, and Monroe County was the hotspot.

8 new permits were issued last week, and all of them were for sites in Monroe County.  5 of the 8 permits went to American Energy Utica, while the remaining 3 were issued to Eclipse Resources.

This latest activity pushes the cumulative total of permits issued in Ohio for Utica shale drilling to 1,896.  1,479 wells have now been drilled, and 868 are producing.  The Utica rig count slipped back down to 26 this week after reaching 29 on the previous week's report.
