Rig Count Falls on Latest Utica Shale Permitting Report

The latest weekly permit report from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources has been released, and activity lagged a bit compared to the previous couple of weeks.

Only seven new permits were issued for horizontal drilling in the Utica shale last week.  Three of those permits were issued to Chesapeake Energy for Harrison County wells, two went to Rex Energy for drilling in Carroll County, and the remaining two were for Belmont County sites (one to American Energy Utica and one to XTO Energy).

This latest activity pushes the cumulative totals to 1,929 wells permitted, 1,505 wells drilled, and 901 wells producing.  The rig count fell to 23.
