Utica Shale Moves Over 900 Wells Producing on Latest Permitting Report

The latest weekly permitting update for Ohio's Utica shale has been released by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.  Activity fell off a bit from last week, but things are still looking up from when permitting had come screeching to a halt a few weeks ago.

10 new permits were issued last week.  Six of those permits were for Monroe County wells (four to Antero Resources, two to CNX Gas), three were issued for Noble County (two to CNX, one to Triad Hunter), and the remaining permits went to Chesapeake Exploration for a Harrison County well.

With these 10 new permits there have now been 1,926 permits issued for horizontal drilling in Ohio's Utica shale.  1,497 wells have now been drilled, and 901 are now producing.  The Utica rig count remained the same, at 26.
