Utica Shale Sees Big Jump in Permits Last Week, But Rig Count Falls
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has released the latest weekly permitting report for the Utica shale. Activity saw a big increase in the week ending on Saturday, July 4.
Over the previous 3 weeks a total of 17 permits had been issued. Last week, though, 21 new permits were approved by the ODNR. Those were divided across three counties and three operators. Eight permits were issued to Eclipse Resources for wells in Monroe County, eight went to Antero Resources for Noble County sites, and the remaining five were issued to Hess for Harrison County wells.
Last week's activity pushed the cumulative permit total closer to the milestone number of 2,000, reaching a week-end total of 1,964. There have also been 1,530 wells drilled, and 918 are producing. The Utica rig count declined yet again, falling to 16.
