Columbiana School District Moving Towards Opening New Utica Shale Academy Satellite Location

The Columbiana School District is on its way to opening a new satellite location for the Utica Shale Academy (USA).

The shale academy was formed last year and currently functions as an open enrollment charter school within the Southern Local High School through an agreement with the Jefferson County Educational Service Center (ESC). 
High school aged students attending the academy can earn certifications for careers in the oil and gas industry while also fulfilling their high school graduation requirements through the academy's courses which are a combination of online and hands-on learning. 
Students who attend the academy are not enrolled in any other schools, but strictly earn their education through the USA, which is accredited by the Ohio Department of Education.
