Utica Shale Sees 3 New Permits Last Week as Rig Count Remains Steady

Activity remains slow for new permitting in the Utica shale, according to the latest weekly report released by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

After just five new permits were issued in the week ending July 25, only 3 new permits were issued in the week ending August 1.  Two of those permits went to PDC Energy for the company's Neff 1H and Neff 2H wells in Guernsey County's Wills Township.  The only remaining permit was issued to CNX Gas Company for the Ilona Baber Et Al Switz16dhsu well in Monroe County.

The slow week brings the cumulative total of horizontal drilling permits issued in Ohio to 1,982, with 1,564 wells drilled and 927 in production.  The Utica rig count stood pat at 20 for the third straight week.
