Utica Shale Sees 6 New Permits, 34 New Producing Wells on Latest Report
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has released the latest weekly permitting report for the Utica shale, which covers the week ending August 15.
Permitting activity increased from the previous week, rising from three to six. Despite the increase, permitting remains greatly reduced from the pace that was previously being set. All six of the new permits were issued to Eclipse Resources for wells in Monroe County.
While the total number of permits may not have increased by much, the number of wells producing saw its biggest increase in some time, rising from 935 last week to 969 on this week's report. The total number of permits now issued is up to 1,988, with 1,570 wells drilled (up two from last week). The Utica rig count also continued to increase, rising back up to 25.
