Utica Shale Permitting Remains Slow
The latest Utica shale permitting report has been released by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and it reveals that activity continues to be pretty slow.
After six permits were listed for the previous week, the latest report shows only five additional permits were issued in the week ending September 12. Four of those permits went to Antero Resources for drilling in Monroe County. The one other permit went to XTO Energy for its West Unit 1H well in Belmont County.
So, with this latest activity, there are now 2,005 permits issued for horizontal drilling in Ohio's Utica shale. 1,588 wells have been drilled, 1,006 are producing, and the Utica rig count continues to hold steady at 21.
